It has come to the attention of US Postal Inspectors (federal law enforcement arm of the US Postal Service) that US Postal Service customers around the Twin Falls area are experiencing a fraudulent phone solicitation scam. These fraudulent scammers identify themselves as agents of the US Postal Service and are asking unsuspecting residents to provide personal information as part of a service to deliver packages held for them at their local Post Office. The callers even use the correct local Post Office phone numbers as proof they are legitimate. The main targets of this particular fraud are the residents of the Hispanic community.
Please be aware this is a fraudulent scam and targets unsuspecting Postal customers in an effort to obtain their personal information. The US Postal Service will never call and ask for personal identification information.
If you believe you have been a victim of this type of scam please contact the US Postal Inspectors at 1-877-876-2455 and your local police or sheriff’s office, to report that you believe you have been a victim of identity theft.
The following are tips you can use to prevent Identity Theft.
•Check your monthly bank statements for charges you don’t recognize.
•Order a copy of your credit report from each of the three national credit bureaus once a year from annualcreditreport.com.
•Take an active interest in the financial activities of your aging parents.
•Share information about scams with friends and family. Use social networking to help keep them safe.
