Free document shredding will be available to consumers and businesses on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 10:00am to Noon at IDADIV Credit Union, 1822 North Midland Blvd., Nampa.

Every two seconds someone becomes a victim of identity theft according to the Identity Theft Resource Center. The Better Business Bureau is encouraging consumers to protect their identities by shredding sensitive documents no longer needed.

Consumers and businesses can bring up to 3 boxes or bags of old checks, bank statements, junk mail, old documents, records files, etc. and watch them be shredded.

Shredding of sensitive information is one way to protect yourself and business from identity theft. The BBB’s web site has additional information about prevention of identity theft at www.bbb.org.

Since 2005 your local BBB has hosted 5 shred events, shredding 108,000 pounds of personal information for 2230 households around southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon. On September 20th fifty-five BBB’s will team up and provide free document shredding nationwide.

Cintas is offering their services free to the community to help prevent this crime. For further information or questions, call the Better Business Bureau at 342-4649.
