United States Courts Hijacks Your Computer; Malware Demands Ransom

The United States Courts Ransomware is a computer virus that displays a lock screen that prevents you from using your Windows desktop until you pay a ransom. This virus, showing up in the past week in western Idaho, is similar to the Reveton virus, which locked up computers last year. In the Reveton Virus, it was the FBI that allegedly had taken control of the computer.

Collection Scam Targets Idaho Utility Customers

Attorney General Lawrence Wasden today warned Idaho businesses and consumers to be wary of telephone calls demanding immediate payment of utility bills. Wasden said Idaho Power notified his office that several customers have received threatening phone calls.

Sweepstakes Letters Offer No Return

Better Business Bureau is warning residents about the sweepstakes scam. The letter bears a Reader’s Digest letterhead and a New York City address, and has a check for more than $9,000, supposedly issued by Tower Hill Insurance. Neither company is involved in the phony sweepstakes.
